Test Name: HIV-1 PHENOSENSE GT (MONOGRAM PHENOTYPE/GENOTYPE)
Test Code: 2192288
Alias: 551690
LAB12231
CPT Code(s): 87900   87901   87903   87904 x12
Preferred Specimen: 3 mL plasma
Container: 2-EDTA (lavender)
Alternate Container: 2-PPT (white)
Collection Instructions: Collect specimen in two lavender-top (EDTA) tubes or two PPT™ tubes. Do not use green-top (heparin) tubes. Centrifuge specimen within six hours of collection. Transfer plasma to one or more polypropylene screw-capped tube(s) (not "pop-top" or "snap-cap"), and freeze. Ship specimen frozen. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Transport Temperature: Frozen
Rejection Criteria:

PPT not centrifuged

quantity not sufficient for analysis

heparinized plasma

non frozen specimen

Limitations: This procedure should be used for patients with documented HIV-1 infection and viral loads ≥500 copies/mL.

Schedule: TATL Report available in 16-22 days from receipt of specimen at LabCorp
Method:

Phenotype: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and viral culture

Genotype: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing.

Performing Lab: LabCorp: #551690
Clinical Significance: Determines viral phenotype and genotype resistance to three classes of commonly prescribed antiretroviral drugs: nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI), nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI), and protease inhibitors (PI). Viral replication capacity is also included.
