Preferred Specimen:
1.0 mL serum
Container:
SST (gold)
Minimum Volume:

0.3 mL serum

This volume does not allow for repeat testing.

Specimens should be processed/tested as soon as possible for optimum results.

Rejection Criteria:

Cord blood

Hemolysis

Limitations:

Ascorbic acid at 30 mg/dL causes artificially low total bilirubin results.

Cyanokit (Hydroxocobalamin) may cause interference with results.

In very rare cases, gammopathy, in particular type IgM (Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia), may cause unreliable results.

Schedule:
Set up: Daily; Results in 24-48 hours
