The specimen is collected first thing in the morning before going to the bathroom or bathing.
The swube tube consists of a paddle with a sticky, "gummed" surface (labelled "sticky side") inserted into a plastic capped tube. To collect, the paddle is slowly pulled out of the tube and the sticky side is gently blotted against the skin surrounding the anus. This may require two or three blots. The paddle is then placed in the plastic tube and returned to the laboratory for testing.
